America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series coin

About This Series

Building on the State Quarters' success, this program honored 56 national parks, monuments, and historic sites with five new reverse designs annually. Authorized by the 2008 Act, each reverse depicts a significant landscape or landmark associated with the featured site across all 50 states, D.C., and five territories. The obverse retained John Flanagan's Washington portrait throughout. Struck in copper-nickel clad at Philadelphia (P) and Denver (D) at 24.26 mm and 5.67 grams, with San Francisco (S) proofs in both clad and .999 fine silver, the program also spawned the companion 5-ounce silver bullion quarter series. Notable designs include Yosemite (2010), Gettysburg (2011), and Grand Canyon (2010), concluding with Tuskegee Airmen (2021). Error varieties including wrong planchet strikes, broadstrikes, and doubled dies have been documented across multiple years. The series maintained public interest in quarter collecting for over a decade, introducing millions to their national parks through pocket change.
