Description

A quarter from the Denver Mint, the 2015 (D) Kisatchie National Forest Quarter belongs to the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The Denver Mint struck 379,600,000 Kisatchie quarters dated 2015. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts a wild turkey in flight over bluestem grass with longleaf pine trees. Kisatchie is the only national forest in Louisiana, protecting the distinctive longleaf pine ecosystem that once covered vast stretches of the Gulf Coastal Plain. Homestead (NE), Kisatchie (LA), Blue Ridge Parkway (NC), Bombay Hook (DE), and Saratoga (NY) were featured. The program entered its middle years with steady collector participation. The Denver Mint, which grew from an 1860s gold rush assay office, has served as a major production facility since 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $1 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #542863.
