Description
The 2018 (D) Cumberland Island National Park Quarter is a quarter produced at the Denver Mint as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The U.S. Mint produced 151.6 million examples, making this ranked 7th of 15 mint variants by mintage, with 8% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts a snowy egret at the edge of a salt marsh. Cumberland Island is Georgia's largest barrier island, featuring maritime forests, pristine beaches, Carnegie-era mansion ruins, and wild horses that have roamed for centuries. Pictured Rocks (MI), Apostle Islands (WI), Voyageurs (MN), Cumberland Island (GA), and Block Island (RI) were featured. The program continued with strong collector support nearing its conclusion. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $1 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #669486.
