Description
The 2012 (D) Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Quarter is a quarter produced at the Denver Mint as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The U.S. Mint produced 78.6 million examples, making this ranked 14th of 16 mint variants by mintage, with 14% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts a dramatic eruption on the east rift zone of Kilauea Volcano. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park encompasses two of the world's most active volcanoes, Kilauea and Mauna Loa. El Yunque (PR), Chaco Culture (NM), Acadia (ME), Hawai'i Volcanoes (HI), and Denali (AK) were featured. El Yunque marked the first U.S. territory site in the program. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $3 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #510073.
