The 2013 (D) Fort McHenry National Park Quarter is a quarter produced at the Denver Mint as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The U.S. Mint produced 151.4 million examples, making this ranked 13th of 15 mint variants by mintage, with 10% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts the fort during the Defenders Day celebration with fireworks overhead symbolizing the "rockets' red glare." Fort McHenry is the birthplace of the Star-Spangled Banner, where Francis Scott Key wrote the poem that became the national anthem. White Mountain (NH), Perry's Victory (OH), Great Basin (NV), Fort McHenry (MD), and Mount Rushmore (SD) were released. The Mount Rushmore quarter was among the most popular issues in the series.
