Description
The 2020 (S) Proof American Samoa National Park Quarter is a proof quarter struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The U.S. Mint produced 2 million examples, making this the lowest mintage among 20 mint variants, representing only 5% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays a Samoan fruit bat mother hanging in a tree with her pup clinging to her, showcasing the remarkable care this species devotes to raising its young. National Park of American Samoa (AS), Weir Farm (CT), Salt River Bay (VI), Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller (VT), and Tallgrass Prairie (KS) were featured. The final full year of the program, with pandemic-related production adjustments. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $28 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, 24.3 mm in diameter. Cataloged as PCGS #811031.
