Description

A quarter from the San Francisco Mint, the 2012 (S) Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Quarter belongs to the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The San Francisco Mint struck 1,409,120 uncirculated Hawaii Volcanoes quarters dated 2012. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse shows Kilauea erupting along its east rift. Inscriptions: HAWAI’I VOLCANOES, HAWAII, 2012 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park encompasses two of the world's most active volcanoes, Kilauea and Mauna Loa. El Yunque (PR), Chaco Culture (NM), Acadia (ME), Hawai'i Volcanoes (HI), and Denali (AK) were featured. El Yunque marked the first U.S. territory site in the program. San Francisco's storied mint, born of the California Gold Rush, has evolved into the primary producer of U.S. proof coins. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $10 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #514350.
