Description

The 2021 (D) Crossing the Delaware Quarter represents a Denver Mint issue from the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon. The reverse, created by Benjamin Sowards and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso, shows General Washington leading his troops across the ice-choked Delaware River on the night of December 25-26, 1776, before the Battle of Trenton. Inscriptions: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, CROSSING THE DELAWARE and QUARTER DOLLAR. Public Law 110-456 called for this design once the America the Beautiful program ended; the coins entered circulation from April 5, 2021. The Denver Mint, which grew from an 1860s gold rush assay office, has served as a major production facility since 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $1 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.26 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #868829.
