The 2011 (S) Proof Olympic National Park - Silver Quarter is a proof quarter struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The San Francisco Mint struck 722,076 silver proof Olympic quarters dated 2011. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts a Roosevelt elk on a gravel river bar along the Hoh River with Mount Olympus in the background. Olympic National Park encompasses three distinct ecosystems: glacier-capped mountains, old-growth temperate rainforest, and rugged Pacific coastline. Gettysburg (PA), Glacier (MT), Olympic (WA), Vicksburg (MS), and Chickasaw (OK) were released. The Gettysburg and Vicksburg quarters resonated with Civil War history collectors. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 6.25 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #505168.
