About This Series

Marking the 250th anniversary of American independence, the Semiquincentennial circulating coin program brings commemorative reverse designs to everyday pocket change across multiple denominations during 2026. Following the tradition of the celebrated 1976 Bicentennial coinage — which temporarily replaced regular reverses of the quarter, half dollar, and dollar — the Semiquincentennial program celebrates the founding principles of liberty, democracy, and national unity that have defined the American experiment. Unlike limited-mintage collector programs, circulating commemoratives reach the broadest possible audience through daily commerce. The 2026 designs appear on coins from Philadelphia and Denver for circulation, as well as special collector versions from San Francisco and West Point. The program is only the second time the nation has celebrated a half-century anniversary milestone with special circulating coinage, connecting modern Americans to the founding moment through the most democratic numismatic medium — the coins that pass through millions of hands every day.
