Description

The 2021 (D) Tuskegee Airmen National Park Quarter is a quarter produced at the Denver Mint as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The U.S. Mint produced 304 million examples, making this ranked 3rd of 5 mint variants by mintage, with 14% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts a Tuskegee Airman pilot suiting up with the Moton Field control tower in the background and P-51 Mustangs overhead, bearing the inscription "They Fought Two Wars." The site honors the nearly 1,000 African American pilots who overcame segregation to become one of the most distinguished fighter groups of World War II. Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site (AL) was the 56th and final coin in the program, honoring the African American WWII fighter pilots who overcame segregation to serve with distinction. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $1 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #857052.
