Description

The 2015 (S) Blue Ridge Parkway Quarter was struck at the San Francisco Mint as a quarter in the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The San Francisco Mint struck 1,049,500 uncirculated Blue Ridge Parkway quarters dated 2015. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse shows the parkway curving along a mountainside toward a tunnel, with flowering dogwood, North Carolina’s state flower, in the foreground. Inscriptions: BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY, NORTH CAROLINA, 2015 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The Blue Ridge Parkway stretches 469 miles through Virginia and North Carolina, connecting Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains national parks. Homestead (NE), Kisatchie (LA), Blue Ridge Parkway (NC), Bombay Hook (DE), and Saratoga (NY) were featured. The program entered its middle years with steady collector participation. San Francisco's storied mint, born of the California Gold Rush, has evolved into the primary producer of U.S. proof coins. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $10 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #545539.
