Description

The 2018 (S) Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Quarter was struck at the San Francisco Mint as a quarter in the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The San Francisco Mint struck 917,580 uncirculated Pictured Rocks quarters dated 2018. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts Chapel Rock with the iconic white pine tree atop its sandstone pillar. Pictured Rocks stretches 42 miles along Lake Superior's shore, featuring multicolored sandstone cliffs rising up to 200 feet. Pictured Rocks (MI), Apostle Islands (WI), Voyageurs (MN), Cumberland Island (GA), and Block Island (RI) were featured. The program continued with strong collector support nearing its conclusion. San Francisco's storied mint, born of the California Gold Rush, has evolved into the primary producer of U.S. proof coins. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $4 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #669477.
