Description

The 2014 (D) Great Sand Dunes National Park Quarter is a quarter from the Denver Mint, belonging to the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The Denver Mint struck 171,800,000 Great Sand Dunes quarters dated 2014. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts a father and son near a creek bed with sand dunes and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains behind. Great Sand Dunes contains the tallest sand dunes in North America, rising to about 740 feet. Great Smoky Mountains (TN), Shenandoah (VA), Arches (UT), Great Sand Dunes (CO), and Everglades (FL) were honored. Great Smoky Mountains, the most visited national park, drew broad collector interest. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $1 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #524915.
