Description

The 2015 (D) Blue Ridge Parkway Quarter was struck at the Denver Mint as a quarter in the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The Denver Mint struck 505,200,000 Blue Ridge Parkway quarters dated 2015. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse shows the parkway curving along a mountainside toward a tunnel, with flowering dogwood, North Carolina’s state flower, in the foreground. Inscriptions: BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY, NORTH CAROLINA, 2015 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The Blue Ridge Parkway stretches 469 miles through Virginia and North Carolina, connecting Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains national parks. Homestead (NE), Kisatchie (LA), Blue Ridge Parkway (NC), Bombay Hook (DE), and Saratoga (NY) were featured. The program entered its middle years with steady collector participation. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906.
