Description

The 2011 (P) Chickasaw National Park Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The U.S. Mint produced 73.8 million examples, making this the highest mintage among 10 variants, accounting for 19% of the year's production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts the Lincoln Bridge spanning Travertine Creek. Chickasaw National Recreation Area protects freshwater and mineral springs that have held cultural significance for centuries, originally established as the Sulphur Springs Reservation in 1902. Gettysburg (PA), Glacier (MT), Olympic (WA), Vicksburg (MS), and Chickasaw (OK) were released. The Gettysburg and Vicksburg quarters resonated with Civil War history collectors.
