Description

The 2017 (S) Proof George Rogers Clark National Historical Park Quarter is a proof quarter struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The San Francisco Mint struck 629,997 clad proof George Rogers Clark quarters dated 2017. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse shows George Rogers Clark leading his men across flooded plains toward Fort Sackville. Inscriptions: GEORGE ROGERS CLARK, INDIANA, 2017 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The 1779 capture of Fort Sackville was a daring campaign that secured the Northwest Territory for the young United States. Effigy Mounds (IA), Frederick Douglass (DC), Ozark Riverways (MO), Ellis Island (NJ), and George Rogers Clark (IN) were honored. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $26 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #620330.
