Description

The 2016 (P) Shawnee National Park Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The U.S. Mint produced 155.6 million examples, making this ranked 9th of 15 mint variants by mintage, with 7% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts Camel Rock with native vegetation and a red-tailed hawk. Shawnee National Forest encompasses over 280,000 acres featuring dramatic sandstone bluffs and the unique Garden of the Gods wilderness area. Shawnee (IL), Cumberland Gap (KY), Harpers Ferry (WV), Theodore Roosevelt (ND), and Fort Moultrie (SC) were released. The Harpers Ferry design depicting John Brown's Fort was historically significant. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $1 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #597026.
