Description

The 2015 (D) Saratoga National Historical Park Quarter is a quarter minted at the Denver Mint, within the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The Denver Mint struck 215,800,000 Saratoga quarters dated 2015. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts British General Burgoyne surrendering his sword to American General Gates. Saratoga preserves the site of the 1777 battles widely considered the turning point of the Revolutionary War, as the American victory convinced France to enter as an ally. Homestead (NE), Kisatchie (LA), Blue Ridge Parkway (NC), Bombay Hook (DE), and Saratoga (NY) were featured. The program entered its middle years with steady collector participation. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $1 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #542983.
