Description

The 2013 (S) Proof Mount Rushmore NP-Silver Quarter is a proof quarter struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The U.S. Mint produced 467,691 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 25 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts workers adding sculptural details to Thomas Jefferson's face, showing the monument during construction. Mount Rushmore features the 60-foot carved faces of Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln. White Mountain (NH), Perry's Victory (OH), Great Basin (NV), Fort McHenry (MD), and Mount Rushmore (SD) were released. The Mount Rushmore quarter was among the most popular issues in the series. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Auction record: $250 PR70DCAM 02-14-2018 eBay. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 6.3 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #516832.
