Description

The 2012 (S) Acadia National Park Quarter, struck at the San Francisco Mint, is part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 collection. The San Francisco Mint struck 1,409,120 uncirculated Acadia quarters dated 2012. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse on the rugged granite coastline of Mount Desert Island. Acadia was the first national park established east of the Mississippi River and protects the highest rocky headlands along the Atlantic coast. El Yunque (PR), Chaco Culture (NM), Acadia (ME), Hawai'i Volcanoes (HI), and Denali (AK) were featured. El Yunque marked the first U.S. territory site in the program. The San Francisco Mint, a Gold Rush-era institution, now specializes in proof and collector coinage. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $10 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #514349.
