Description

The 2018 (S) Block Island National Wildlife Refuge Quarter is a quarter from the San Francisco Mint, belonging to the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The San Francisco Mint struck 870,361 uncirculated Block Island quarters dated 2018. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts a black-crowned night-heron in flight over Cow Cove. Block Island protects critical coastal habitat recognized by The Nature Conservancy as one of the "Last Great Places" in the Western Hemisphere. Pictured Rocks (MI), Apostle Islands (WI), Voyageurs (MN), Cumberland Island (GA), and Block Island (RI) were featured. The program continued with strong collector support nearing its conclusion. San Francisco's storied mint, born of the California Gold Rush, has evolved into the primary producer of U.S. proof coins. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $4 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #669490.
