Description

The 2012 (P) Acadia National Park Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The U.S. Mint produced 24.8 million examples, making this ranked 10th of 16 mint variants by mintage, with 4% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse on the rugged granite coastline of Mount Desert Island. Acadia was the first national park established east of the Mississippi River and protects the highest rocky headlands along the Atlantic coast. El Yunque (PR), Chaco Culture (NM), Acadia (ME), Hawai'i Volcanoes (HI), and Denali (AK) were featured. El Yunque marked the first U.S. territory site in the program. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $3 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #510070.
