The 2011 (S) Proof Glacier National Park - Silver Quarter is a proof quarter struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The U.S. Mint produced 722,076 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 20 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts the northeast slope of Mount Reynolds with a mountain goat traversing the rocky slopes. Glacier National Park in Montana contains over 700 miles of trails and more than 130 named lakes. Gettysburg (PA), Glacier (MT), Olympic (WA), Vicksburg (MS), and Chickasaw (OK) were released. The Gettysburg and Vicksburg quarters resonated with Civil War history collectors. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins.
