Description

The 2021 (S) Proof Crossing the Delaware Quarter is a proof quarter struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The U.S. Mint produced 490,829 examples, making this ranked 0th of 5 mint variants by mintage, with 0% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays General George Washington standing in a boat with sword extended, commanding his troops through the overnight crossing of the ice-choked Delaware River on December 25, 1776. Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site (AL) was the 56th and final coin in the program, honoring the African American WWII fighter pilots who overcame segregation to serve with distinction. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $27 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 92.7% cu 8.3 ni, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.26 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #861692.
