Description

The 2021 (S) Proof Crossing the Delaware Quarter is a proof quarter struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon. The reverse shows General Washington leading his troops across the ice-choked Delaware River on the night of December 25-26, 1776, before the Battle of Trenton. Inscriptions: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, CROSSING THE DELAWARE and QUARTER DOLLAR. The reverse was created by Benjamin Sowards and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso; Public Law 110-456 called for the design once the America the Beautiful program ended. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $27 depending on grade and condition.
