Description
A quarter from the Denver Mint, the 2012 (D) Denali National Park belongs to the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The U.S. Mint produced 166.6 million examples, making this the highest mintage among 16 variants, accounting for 29% of the year's production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts a Dall sheep on a rocky outcrop with Denali in the background. Denali National Park is centered around North America's tallest peak at 20,310 feet and protects six million acres of wild subarctic landscape. El Yunque (PR), Chaco Culture (NM), Acadia (ME), Hawai'i Volcanoes (HI), and Denali (AK) were featured. El Yunque marked the first U.S. territory site in the program. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $3 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #510075.
