Description

Part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series, the 2017 (S) Ellis Island (Statue of Liberty National Monument) Quarter is a quarter from the San Francisco Mint. The San Francisco Mint struck 901,780 uncirculated Ellis Island quarters dated 2017. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts an immigrant family approaching Ellis Island with the hospital building in the background. Ellis Island processed over 12 million immigrants from 1892 to 1954 who came seeking a new life in America. Effigy Mounds (IA), Frederick Douglass (DC), Ozark Riverways (MO), Ellis Island (NJ), and George Rogers Clark (IN) were honored. Coined at the San Francisco Mint, which transitioned from Gold Rush-era production to its modern role producing proof and collector issues. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $26 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #653199.
