Description
The 2010 (D) Hot Springs National Park Satin Finish Quarter is a special strike quarter struck at the Denver Mint, part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The U.S. Mint produced 583,897 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 30 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts the facade of the Hot Springs National Park headquarters building with a thermal fountain in the foreground. Established as a federal reserve in 1832, Hot Springs is the oldest federally protected area in the United States, predating Yellowstone by 40 years. Inaugural year featuring Hot Springs (AR), Yellowstone (WY), Yosemite (CA), Grand Canyon (AZ), and Mount Hood (OR). Strong collector enthusiasm drove high first-year demand for both circulating and silver proof versions. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Auction record: $149 SP69 03-29-2019 eBay. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #418854.
