Description
The 2014 (D) Shenandoah National Park Quarter is a quarter produced at the Denver Mint as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters 2010-2021 series. The U.S. Mint produced 197.8 million examples, making this ranked 13th of 15 mint variants by mintage, with 12% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites from each state and territory. The reverse depicts a hiker pausing at Little Stony Man summit to take in the sweeping view of the Shenandoah Valley. The park is traversed by Skyline Drive, offering panoramic views of the Piedmont and the Shenandoah Valley. Great Smoky Mountains (TN), Shenandoah (VA), Arches (UT), Great Sand Dunes (CO), and Everglades (FL) were honored. Great Smoky Mountains, the most visited national park, drew broad collector interest. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $1 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #524926.
