Die Clash Overlays
When a coin is not fed between the dies, the obverse and reverse dies strike each other and each picks up a faint impression of the other. Those marks then appear on every coin struck afterwards, always in the same places — because the two dies meet in the same alignment every time.
These overlays are predictive. Each one shows where clash marks would appear on that design — it is not a record that the coin shown carries a clash. Use it to know where to look. Confirmed clashes are catalogued as their own listings, and the Die Clash entry in Learn explains how to tell a genuine one from damage.
