Description

Part of the DC & US Territories Quarters 2009 series, the 2009 (D) U.S. Virgin Islands Quarter is a quarter from the Denver Mint. The Denver Mint struck 41,000,000 U.S. Virgin Islands quarters dated 2009. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories: Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Northern Mariana Islands. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $3 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #406615.
