Description

The 2005 (D) Oregon Satin Finish State Quarter is a special strike quarter struck at the Denver Mint, part of the State Quarters 1999-2008 series. The Denver Mint struck 1,160,000 satin-finish Oregon quarters dated 2005. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order the states ratified the Constitution or joined the Union. The reverse depicts Crater Lake with Wizard Island visible, flanked by mountain peaks and conifers. Crater Lake, formed in the caldera of a collapsed volcano, is the deepest lake in the United States at 1,949 feet. The 2005 quarters honored, in release order, California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas, and West Virginia. Satin finish specimens from mint sets were produced. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Auction record: $99 SP69 10-28-2012 Great Collections. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #914039.
