Description
The 2026 Best of the Mint MCMVII Saint-Gaudens High Relief Gold Coin reproduces Augustus Saint-Gaudens' masterwork — widely considered the most beautiful American coin ever produced — in one ounce of 99.99% pure gold. The obverse features Liberty striding forward with torch and olive branch, the Capitol dome visible in the background, with the date rendered in Roman numerals as MCMVII. The reverse shows a young eagle flying during a sunrise, a design of remarkable grace and power. The original 1907 High Relief Double Eagles required multiple strikes to fully bring up the design, making production impractical. Fewer than 12,000 were struck before the Mint switched to a lower-relief version. Struck at the West Point Mint with the Liberty Bell "250" privy mark for America's 250th anniversary, this reproduction in Uncirculated finish brings Saint-Gaudens' vision to a new generation. The companion silver medal presents a modern reimagining with Liberty carrying torch and olive branch among thirteen stars.
