Description

The 2015 (D) Presidential Dollar - Dwight D. Eisenhower, Position A represents a Denver Mint issue from the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint reported 3.6 million Dwight D. Eisenhower dollars from Denver for 2015 as a whole; no separate count of Position A edges exists. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The thirty-fourth President (1953–1961), Dwight D. Eisenhower was the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe during World War II who oversaw postwar prosperity and the creation of the Interstate Highway System. He previously appeared on the Eisenhower dollar (1971–1978), making this his second U.S. dollar coin appearance. Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Lyndon B. Johnson were honored. The Kennedy dollar is collected alongside the Kennedy Half Dollar for a complete set spanning two denominations. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #542920.
