Description

Part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series, the 2010 (D) Presidential Dollar - Franklin Pierce, Position A is a dollar from the Denver Mint. The U.S. Mint reported 38.4 million Franklin Pierce dollars from Denver for 2010 as a whole; no separate count of Position A edges exists. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The fourteenth President (1853–1857), Franklin Pierce is the only president to have recited his inaugural address entirely from memory. His signing of the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 inflamed sectional tensions over slavery and contributed to the bloodshed of "Bleeding Kansas." Fillmore, Pierce, Buchanan, and Lincoln were honored. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #417249.
