Description

A quarter from the Denver Mint, the 2023 (D) Bessie Coleman Quarter belongs to the American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series. The Denver Mint struck 317,200,000 Bessie Coleman quarters dated 2023. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (modeled in 1931 and first used on a quarter in 2022) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. First African American and first Native American woman to earn a pilot's license, received in France on June 15, 1921. The reverse depicts Coleman suiting up for a flight. Bessie Coleman, Edith Kanaka'ole, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jovita Idar, and Maria Tallchief honored. Coleman was the first African American and Native American woman to hold a pilot's license. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $1 depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper-nickel, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.26 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #916706.
