Description
The 2009 (D) District of Columbia Quarter is a quarter produced at the Denver Mint as part of the DC & US Territories Quarters 2009 series. Total mintage reached 88.8 million. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon, while the reverse displays unique designs representing the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories: Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Northern Mariana Islands. Designed by Joel Iskowitz/Don Everhart. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #406599. The 2009 DC & US Territories Quarters extended the State Quarters Program to include the District of Columbia and five U.S. Completes the State Quarters concept by including all inhabited U.S. jurisdictions. Six designs were released in 2009.
