Description

The 2014 (D) Native American Dollar - Enhanced, Position A is a special strike dollar struck at the Denver Mint, part of the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. The 2014-D Enhanced Uncirculated dollar, made for the Coin and Currency set, had a mintage of 50,000 in all, across both edge-lettering positions. Which way up the edge lettering ran was left to chance, and no one, the Mint included, has counted how many are Position A. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, on her back; the reverse changes every year to honor a Native American contribution. The 2014 Native American Dollar honors the hospitality extended by Native Americans to the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The reverse shows a Native American man offering a ceremonial pipe while a woman holds food, with a compass displaying "NW." Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $12 depending on grade and condition. Struck in manganese brass (77% copper, 12% zinc, 7% manganese, 4% nickel) bonded to a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #535820.
