Description

The 2012 (D) Native American Dollar - Position A is a dollar minted at the Denver Mint, within the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. The U.S. Mint struck 3.1 million 2012-D Native American dollars in all, Position A and Position B edges together; how the total divides between the two is not recorded. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, on her back; the reverse changes every year to honor a Native American contribution. The 2012 Native American Dollar honors the extensive trade routes developed by Native Americans who used horses to transport goods across the continent. The reverse depicts a Native American and horse symbolizing 17th-century trade networks. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $10 depending on grade and condition. Struck in manganese brass (77% copper, 12% zinc, 7% manganese, 4% nickel) bonded to a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #512464.
