Description
The 2001 (D) Rhode Island State Quarter is a quarter produced at the Denver Mint as part of the State Quarters 1999-2008 series. Total mintage reached 447.1 million. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon, while the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order of statehood ratification. Designed by John Flanagan/Thomas D. Rodgers. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #5971. The 50 State Quarters Program (1999-2008) was the most successful numismatic program in U.S. The program revitalized coin collecting in America. Key issues include the 2004-D Wisconsin "Extra Leaf" varieties and various proof/silver proof versions.
