Description
The 1795 Capped Bust to Right Eagle - 13 Leaves is a Gold Eagle minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the Capped Bust to Right Eagles 1795-1804 series. The 1795 eagle issue totaled 5,583 coins across both reverses; how many have 13 leaves was not recorded. The Mint's report gives 2,795 eagles for 1793-1795 together; the 5,583 includes later deliveries, and the date figures for the 1795-1801 eagles do not reconcile with the Mint's table. The obverse features Liberty facing right in a soft cap, and the reverse displays a slender eagle standing on a palm branch and holding a wreath in its beak. First year of the U.S. eagle. Thirteen leaves and nine leaves reverse varieties exist. Struck in 91.7% gold, 8.3% silver and copper, weighing 17.5 grams, 33 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8551.
