Description

The 2003 (D) Illinois State Quarter is a quarter produced at the Denver Mint as part of the State Quarters 1999-2008 series. The U.S. Mint produced 237.4 million examples, making this the highest mintage among 10 variants, accounting for 10% of the year's production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order of statehood ratification. The reverse depicts a young Abraham Lincoln within the state outline, flanked by a farm scene and the Chicago skyline, with the inscriptions "21st State/Century" and "Land of Lincoln." The design bridges Illinois's agricultural roots with its urban achievement. Illinois, Alabama, Maine, Missouri, and Arkansas. Some state designs attracted controversy over their selections. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $2 depending on grade and condition.
