Description

Part of the State Quarters 1999-2008 series, the 2002 (D) Mississippi State Quarter is a quarter from the Denver Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 289.6 million examples, making this ranked 3rd of 10 mint variants by mintage, with 9% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order of statehood ratification. The reverse features two magnolia blossoms with leaves and the inscription "The Magnolia State." The magnolia, designated as both the state tree and state flower, represents the natural beauty and Southern character of Mississippi. Tennessee, Ohio, Louisiana, Indiana, and Mississippi. Strong collector participation continued. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906.
