The Denver Mint struck 184,800,000 Maria Tallchief quarters dated 2023. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (modeled in 1931 and first used on a quarter in 2022) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. America's first major prima ballerina and a citizen of the Osage Nation who became the star of the New York City Ballet. The reverse shows Tallchief in a spotlit balletic pose. Bessie Coleman, Edith Kanaka'ole, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jovita Idar, and Maria Tallchief honored. Coleman was the first African American and Native American woman to hold a pilot's license. The Denver Mint, which grew from an 1860s gold rush assay office, has served as a major production facility since 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0.25 to $1 depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper-nickel clad (91.67% copper, 8.33% nickel), weighing 5.67 grams, 24.26 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #919373.
