Description

The 2016 (D) Native American Dollar - Position A is a dollar produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 4.7 million examples, making this ranked 3rd of 4 mint variants by mintage, with 26% of production. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste Crapeau on her back and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring Native American contributions to the United States. The 2016 Native American Dollar honors Native American code talkers from both World Wars who used their tribal languages to transmit unbreakable military communications. The reverse shows two military helmets with two feathers forming a "V" for victory. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $6 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 77% copper, 12% zinc, 1% other over a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #598520.
