Description

The 2016 (D) Native American Dollar - Position A is a dollar from the Denver Mint, belonging to the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. The U.S. Mint coined 2,100,000 Native American dollars at Denver in 2016 across both edge positions; how many show Position A is not recorded. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, on her back; the reverse changes every year to honor a Native American contribution. The 2016 Native American Dollar honors Native American code talkers from both World Wars who used their tribal languages to transmit unbreakable military communications. The reverse shows two military helmets with two feathers forming a "V" for victory. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $6 depending on grade and condition. Struck in manganese brass (77% copper, 12% zinc, 7% manganese, 4% nickel) bonded to a pure copper core, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #598520.
