The 2020 (D) American Innovation Dollar - Maryland, Position A, struck at the Denver Mint, is part of the American Innovation Dollars 2018 to Date collection. The obverse features a profile of the Statue of Liberty with a small stylized gear privy mark, and the reverses honor innovations and innovators from each state, the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories. This coin honors the Hubble Space Telescope, managed from the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, which has delivered groundbreaking discoveries about the age, expansion, and composition of the universe since 1990. Connecticut (the Gerber variable scale), Massachusetts (the telephone — Alexander Graham Bell), Maryland (the Hubble Space Telescope), and South Carolina (Septima Poinsette Clark's citizenship schools and the civil rights movement). The Denver Mint, which grew from an 1860s gold rush assay office, has served as a major production facility since 1906.
