Description
The 2026 Best of the Mint Standing Liberty Quarter Gold Coin reproduces Hermon A. MacNeil's iconic 1916 Type 1 design in 1/4 ounce of 99.99% pure gold. The obverse shows Liberty stepping forward through a gateway, shield raised in defense, with the original exposed-breast design that was later modified in 1917. The reverse depicts an eagle in full flight. Struck at the West Point Mint with the Liberty Bell "250" privy mark honoring America's 250th anniversary, this coin carries the original 1916 date and follows the format established by the 2016 Centennial Gold Standing Liberty Quarter. The companion one-ounce silver medal, designed by Esao Andrews and sculpted by Chief Engraver Joseph F. Menna, presents a modern reinterpretation with a windswept Liberty extending olive branches toward a distant eagle, its reverse showing a close-up of the eagle's talons clutching the branches.
