Description
The 1794 Flowing Hair Half Dime is part of the Flowing Hair Half Dimes 1794-1795 series. All 1794 half dimes were struck in March 1795; references give either 7,756 or 7,765 for those dated 1794. The Mint recorded 86,416 half dimes for 1793-1795 together; 7,756 is what remains after the 78,660 dated 1795. The obverse features Liberty facing right with flowing hair, surrounded by stars and the reverse displays a small eagle standing on a rock or cloud within a wreath of olive branches. Produced during the earliest years of the United States Mint, when the young republic was establishing its monetary system and coinage traditions. Weighing 1.35 grams, 16.5 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4250.
