Description
The 2004 (D) Iowa State Quarter is a quarter produced at the Denver Mint as part of the State Quarters 1999-2008 series. The U.S. Mint produced 251.8 million examples, making this ranked 10th of 12 mint variants by mintage, with 9% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order of statehood ratification. The reverse features a one-room schoolhouse with a teacher and students planting a tree, inspired by Grant Wood's painting, with the inscription "Foundation in Education." The design celebrates Iowa's deep commitment to education. Michigan, Florida, Texas, Iowa, and Wisconsin. The 2004-D Wisconsin "Extra Leaf" varieties (High Leaf and Low Leaf) became the most famous State Quarter errors. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $217 depending on grade and condition.
