Produced at the Denver Mint, the 2010 (D) Presidential Dollar - Millard Fillmore, Position A is part of the Presidential Dollars 2007 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 37.0 million examples, making this ranked 5th of 16 mint variants by mintage, with 6% of production. The obverse features rotating portraits of each U.S. president in order of service, released four per year and the reverse displays the Statue of Liberty. The thirteenth President (1850–1853), Millard Fillmore assumed office after Zachary Taylor's death and signed the Compromise of 1850 in an attempt to hold the nation together over the slavery question. He was the last president who was neither a Democrat nor a Republican. Fillmore, Pierce, Buchanan, and Lincoln were honored. The Lincoln dollar drew strong collector interest due to the president's enduring popularity, but overall circulation demand continued to decline. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906.
